Role: Physical Activity and Health Co-ordinator
Salary: Grade H: £37,280 - £39,862 per year
Location: Across Derby City
Hours: 37 hours per week
Closing Date: 4th March 2026
Contract Type: Temporary Maternity cover until December 27

Based in the Physical Activity & Health Team, Physical Activity and Health Coordinators strive to reduce health inequalities through an insight led approach; understanding what can enable and hinder residents from engaging in community based healthy lifestyle programmes and opportunities.
Our focus is rooted in involving local people, community groups and partners in specific localities to support change through co-design. We are grounded in action and discovery, driven by data and intelligence. From shifting the way people think, to the evolution of and introduction of programmes.
Physical Activity and Health Co-ordinators lead on key themes of work, collaborating with colleagues and partners to agree approaches, plans and make new and sustaining trusted relationships. Themed work areas can include leading on target audiences, healthy lifestyle programme development, leading on locality specific insight development, facility activation etc.
You will need to be highly motivated, with a curious, bold and innovative approach and have excellent organisational and communication skills. You will need to be agile and proactive, using reflective practice to develop your approach(es) and behaviours and when converting insight into tangible action. You need to be able use negotiation and influencing skills and build strong and sincere relationships to drive positive change and improve outcomes for the people of Derby.

The Opportunity
In the role of Physical Activity and Health Co-ordinator, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
Reducing stubborn health inequalities through an insight led and evidence-based approach
Managing, developing and evolving healthy lifestyle programmes to reduce barriers and ultimately increase participation and engagement
Recruit, train and line manage Livewell Advisors / delegated staff to deliver meaningful and high-quality healthy lifestyle programmes (smoking cessation, weight management, physical activity)
Foster and develop strong relationships with partners through the city and for specific localities and / or specific population groups, to bring about positive change that improves residents’ health, wellbeing and quality of life in Derby
Manage specific projects and work streams that increase physical activity and daily movement levels and reduce physical inactivity inequalities
About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have…
The ability and experience to passionately and effectively lead, empower and motivate others
Strong partnership working, grounded in collaboration and co-produced opportunities, programmes and sustainable solutions
Confidence to seek out and interpret insight, data and intelligence that converts into successful actions that achieve locally identified outcomes
Effective advocacy skills that can champion resident led discoveries
A Higher National Diploma / Degree level qualification or equivalent experience in a related discipline sports, physical activity, community health development etc
Qualification(s) in behaviour change techniques including Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behaviour Theory type approaches.
