Job description

If you’re a graduate who’s curious about teaching and loves working with children, this could be the perfect next step. A welcoming and inclusive primary school in the heart of Heaton is looking to appoint a Key Stage 1 Teaching Assistant to work closely alongside the class teacher, supporting pupils across the classroom and providing targeted group support for children with additional needs.

This primary school is well regarded for its nurturing approach, high expectations, and commitment to supporting every child to succeed both academically and emotionally.

About the role:

This is a varied and rewarding TA role, ideal for graduates who are interested in education, child development, psychology, or SEND.

Your role will include:

  • Supporting the class teacher during lessons and daily routines in a KS1 classroom
  • Working with small groups of pupils with additional needs outside the classroom to reinforce learning
  • Assisting with phonics, reading, writing and early numeracy activities
  • Helping pupils to stay focused, confident and engaged in their learning
  • Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation using clear routines and encouragement
  • Contributing to a calm, inclusive learning environment where pupils feel safe and supported

You’ll be guided by experienced teachers and support staff and will gain hands‑on experience in a structured, supportive setting.

About You

This role is open to graduates, and no prior school experience is required.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, patient and enthusiastic about working with young children
  • Interested in education, SEND, psychology, or child development
  • Confident communicating with children and adults
  • Willing to learn, take initiative and get involved in school life
  • Reliable, positive and keen to develop professionally

Training & Support

You’ll learn on the job with ongoing guidance from school staff and your consultant. In addition, you’ll have free access to our CPD Academy, offering training in:

  • Safeguarding and child protection
  • SEND and SEMH support
  • Behaviour management
  • Phonics and classroom support strategies

This makes the role ideal for anyone considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, or SEND support.

Why This School?

  • Supportive KS1 team with strong mentoring
  • Clear routines and structured support for pupils
  • Inclusive ethos with a focus on early intervention
  • Easily accessible location in Heaton

If you’re looking for a hands‑on, meaningful role in a primary school where you can build experience and confidence while making a real difference, this could be the perfect opportunity.
