Overview
The post holder will deliver high-quality, holistic, and evidence-based care to patients with skin cancer across both outpatient and inpatient settings. Working collaboratively within a well-established multidisciplinary team, they will be supported by senior clinicians from the Skin Cancer Nursing and Plastic Surgery teams. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to personalised treatment pathways, ensuring compassionate and clinically effective care throughout the patient journey.
Work pattern
This role is based on an 8am-4pm or 8 : 30am-4 : 40pm working day, Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
- Provide holistic, evidence based, individualised care for skin cancer patients in an outpatient and inpatient setting
- Undertake the nursing care of patients, ensuring privacy & dignity is maintained whilst being aware of physical and psychological needs
- To be aware of the needs of relatives, and to give them support and advice
- Take individual responsibility for the nursing care of a group of patients, as a registered nurse
- To participate in holistic needs assessment of patients
- Develop the Skin Cancer Nursing service by becoming knowledgeable in Skin cancer, offering specialist advice, guidance to clinical staff, patients and carers
- Support the MDT with urgent patient queries
- Provide remote telephone support and advice to patients with a skin cancer diagnosis, including holistic needs assessment and patient queries
- Act as a specialist resource, communicating with patients and their family, assessing their needs and providing relevant support, information, education, advice and counselling when necessary
- Facilitate effective communication and signpost patients and carers to appropriate support, tertiary and community services to promote a seamless service and reduce / avoid admissions and length of stay to the acute trust
- Provide Personalised Care and support planning to skin cancer patients including helping patients with self-supported care
- Encourage user involvement in the development of the Skin Cancer Service through the use of surveys and audit
