BSL Teaching Assistant – SEN School

Hornchurch, East London

Full-Time, Long-Term

Up to £650 per week | Immediate Start

Do you have a degree in Psychology, Special Education, or a related field?

Are you fluent in British Sign Language (BSL) and passionate about supporting students with communication needs?

The Role – BSL Teaching Assistant

  • Full-time, long-term role starting immediately
  • Support students with hearing impairments, autism, and additional SEN needs
  • Provide 1 : 1 and small-group support, using BSL to aid communication and learning
  • Assist pupils with social interaction, emotional regulation, and daily routines
  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to deliver tailored learning plans
  • Contribute to an inclusive, engaging classroom environment where every student can thrive

    • Person Specification

  • Degree in Psychology, Special Education, or a related subject (essential)
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (minimum Level 2 required; Level 3 preferred)
  • Previous experience supporting young people with SEN (desirable but not essential)
  • Empathetic, patient, and resilient, with strong communication skills
  • Genuine passion for SEN education and helping vulnerable learners succeed
