Mental Health Support Assistant

Location : Wantage, Oxfordshire

Start Date : ASAP

Pay Scale : .00 per day

Are you passionate about supporting children with SEN and SEMH needs? This is an exciting opportunity to join a welcoming Primary School in Wantage as a Mental Health Support Assistant.

The school is seeking a caring, resilient, and proactive individual who can provide targeted support to pupils with additional needs. You will work closely with the class teacher to ensure every child feels valued, supported, and able to thrive in the classroom. This role is ideal for candidates with prior experience supporting SEN / SEMH pupils, as well as graduates or aspiring teachers and psychologists looking to gain hands-on experience in a mainstream Primary School setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support to pupils with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Work closely with the class teacher to help children feel valued and supported
  • Assist with behaviour management and implement SEN strategies
  • Contribute to pastoral care and the overall wellbeing of pupils
  • Qualifications and Experience

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate patience, empathy, and a positive attitude, with a genuine passion for making a difference in children’s lives. Experience working with children with SEN / SEMH is desirable, but the school is equally keen to meet individuals with transferable skills, such as from care, psychology, or youth work backgrounds. Prior experience supporting SEN / SEMH pupils is beneficial.
