Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

The post holder will support the school nursing team to provide an accessible, appropriate, culturally sensitive, safe, person centred and effective service for children, young people and families in the community, by working in partnership with service users, care providers and other agencies.

Using a community development approach, working in partnership with colleagues, individuals, the local community, Health Improvement staff and other agencies to identify and address health needs. The post holder will be a first level nurse who will support the school nurse in delivering care to children, young people and families within the caseload. They will also participate in health improvement activities as delegated by the school nurse.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • This post is an opportunity for a Band 5 NMC registered Nurse to join The North East Glasgow City School Nursing Team as a Community staff nurse
  • The shift pattern for this post is Monday - Friday, 08:30 to 16:30

Key responsibilities:

  • Work in partnership with colleagues, children, young people and families, education, the local community, Health Improvement colleagues and other agencies to identify and address health needs
  • Be familiar with and ensure implementation of local, regional and national policies, procedures and guidelines pertinent to their area in the pursuit of the highest standard of care
  • Participate in systems of practice support and personal development planning in line with the Knowledge & Skills Framework
  • Is responsible for ensuring that they practice within the legal & ethical framework as established by NHSGGC, Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and national legislation to ensure the children, young people and families interests and wellbeing are met
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date clinical records and care plans in accordance with NHSGGC and NMC standards for records and record keeping, ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act
  • Maintain systems to ensure timeous transfer of client records/information to ensure continuity of care
  • Participate in the implementation of evidence-based interventions to meet the individual needs of children, young people and families using national guidance, Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network and best practice statements, standards developed by NHS Health Improvement Scotland and evidence summaries from Modernising Nursing in the Community NHS NES
  • Participate in the induction of all new nursing staff into the team and supervise junior staff within delegated areas of responsibility. This could include supporting their personal development planning process
  • Be responsible for own professional development and will encourage and support the continuing professional development of junior team members
  • Be responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communications and working relationships with primary, secondary and tertiary care colleagues, and collaborate with statutory and third sector agencies to ensure effective co-ordination of services for individuals and groups
  • Will receive clinical supervision in line with the NHS GG&C clinical supervision process

  • 1st Level Nursing Registration wi8th NMC
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

  • Previous experience in primary care/community/paediatric setting
