Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) Position : SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator)

Role Purpose We are seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and committed SENDCo to lead and develop our school’s provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping inclusive practice, supporting staff to meet the needs of all learners, and ensuring statutory responsibilities are met in line with the SEND Code of Practice.

As a core member of the leadership team, you will drive forward high standards of SEND provision, working closely with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Lead on the strategic development of SEND policy and provision across the school

Oversee identification of pupils with SEND and maintain accurate records in line with statutory guidance

Coordinate, write and review individual plans (IEPs / EHCPs) and ensure provision is delivered effectively

Provide training, guidance and professional support to teaching and support staff

Monitor and track the progress of pupils with SEND, ensuring interventions are targeted and impactful

Work with parents / carers to build strong partnerships and involve them in their child’s education

Liaise with local authorities, external professionals, and specialist services to secure support for pupils

Contribute to whole-school safeguarding and inclusion strategies

Support with transition arrangements for SEND pupils moving between key stages or schools

Person Specification Essential :

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to achieve within 3 years)

Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements

Experience of successfully supporting pupils with a range of additional needs

Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work strategically and manage competing priorities

Desirable :

Experience as a SENDCo or in a leadership role within inclusion / SEND

Understanding of multi-agency working and funding processes

Evidence of successful impact on whole-school SEND outcomes
