Job description

Graduate Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant
Full-Time | Immediate Start or September 2026
Salary: £500 - £560 per week

Are you a driven and supportive graduate with a keen interest in education?

Do you want to play an active role in supporting young people with additional and complex needs to thrive both academically and personally?

Are you looking to build valuable experience in a supportive and leading secondary school?

A highly supportive and inclusive secondary school in the Sheffield area is seeking a committed Graduate Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant to join their experienced team. This opportunity is well-suited to recent or upcoming graduates who are exploring careers in education, SEND provision, or educational psychology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver focused 1:1 support and small group interventions for pupils with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SEMH, and learning difficulties
  • Contribute to the delivery and review of EHCP targets, ensuring consistent and effective support strategies
  • Work in partnership with class teachers and the SENCO to adapt and differentiate learning materials
  • Help maintain a structured, predictable, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Encourage the development of independence, social interaction, and emotional resilience
  • Opportunities available for immediate start as well as September 2026

The candidate we’re looking for:

  • A graduate with a minimum 2:1 degree (Psychology, Education, or core academic subjects preferred)
  • Demonstrates a calm, adaptable, and proactive mindset, suited to working with pupils with diverse needs
  • Previous experience supporting young people (in education, care, youth work, or similar settings) is beneficial but not essential
  • A clear interest in inclusive practice, neurodiversity, and SEND support strategies
  • Willingness to develop knowledge of SEMH needs, behaviour frameworks, and personalised learning approaches
  • Must hold the right to work in the UK

About the Role:

In this Graduate Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will support pupils in accessing a broad and balanced secondary curriculum, working both individually and in small groups. You will play an important part in helping students overcome barriers to learning by implementing tailored interventions and scaffolding strategies.

Working alongside teaching staff and specialist professionals, you will help create a learning environment that promotes engagement, self-regulation, and academic progress, while also supporting wider developmental outcomes.

About the School:

This Sheffield-based secondary school supports pupils with a range of additional needs whilst in mainstream education. The school places strong emphasis on individual learning plans, emotional wellbeing, and providing a nurturing and supportive environment.

With a collaborative and experienced team, the school is well-regarded for nurturing graduates and supporting progression into careers such as teaching, SEN coordination, and educational psychology.

If you are looking to gain meaningful experience and make a lasting impact on young people’s lives, we encourage you to apply.

To apply, please send your CV and cover letter to James at KPI Education.
