Job description

Overview

Social Worker - Assessment & Intervention, Mid Team. Permanent, Full Time. Location : Chelmsford. Working Style : Fixed-base worker. Salary : £34,902 to £50,081 per annum.

Essex County Council recognises the importance of flexibility and wellbeing for colleagues in children’s social care and has introduced a nine-day working fortnight for full-time frontline Social Workers within Children’s Services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a defined caseload and work with children, young people and families / carers to achieve positive change and improved outcomes.
  • Conduct incoming assessments and short-term intervention work with families, from pre-birth to a child’s 18th birthday.
  • Focus on children in need (CIN) and their families, providing up to three months of intervention and handling S47 child protection enquiries in collaboration with police and partners.
  • Transfer cases to Family Support and Protection Teams when longer-term intervention is required or if children become subject to a child protection plan or come into care.
  • Step down families to Family Solutions where appropriate as part of the Early Help Offer.
  • Deliver direct work and reviews in relation to Child Protection, Child in Need and Children Looked After; support permanency for Children in Care.

What You Will Need

  • Diploma or degree in social work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent and registration with Social Work England as a registered Social Worker.
  • Demonstrable capability of practice in line with current professional standards (e.g., Professional Capability Framework, Knowledge & Skills Statement).
  • Ability to apply social work knowledge with emotional intelligence, analytical skills, and confident engagement in challenging social and family situations.
  • Good working knowledge of information technology and related systems (e.g., Word, social work case recording systems).
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends very occasionally as required.
  • Other requirements : Mobility around a wider operational area including travel around Essex and beyond; driving licence and car or ability to meet mobility requirements. The role may involve transporting service users and belongings in emergencies.
