Job description

Overview

Senior Speech and Language Therapist role at Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust. Based in West Lancashire to provide a high quality service to children with speech, language and communication difficulties across the locality.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an identified specialist caseload of children with speech, language and communication needs, including assessment, diagnosis, intervention, training for parents / carers and professionals, contribution to multidisciplinary team working, provision of EHCPs and developing individualised management and treatment plans using clinical reasoning and evidence-based skills.
  • Provide clinical supervision for junior speech and language therapists and / or assistants.
  • Participate in the clinical education of speech and language therapy students.
  • Work within clinics, mainstream and special schools and community settings with children with complex needs.
  • Work as part of a children\'s integrated therapy team delivering assessment and intervention for referred children.
  • Co-ordinate, develop and deliver training programmes for colleagues in health, education, social care and the voluntary sector, and for parents / carers.
  • Support service development projects and engage with Clinical leads in professional development.
  • Provide specialist advice to team colleagues on service delivery issues.
  • Provide clinical and management supervision to junior colleagues.

Qualifications and experience

  • Professional Degree or equivalent in Speech & Language Therapy
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Experience with children with complex needs in community / non-clinical settings; safeguarding experience; ability to work with diverse needs
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, assessment tools, evidence-based practice, NHS policy
  • Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently as lead specialist and manage challenging behaviours
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving / decision-making in clinical practice
