Who you are
We are looking for someone who is organized, detail-orientated, and efficient. Ideally, you have a solid understanding of property assessment and appraisal, along with the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external clients. You should have strong digital literacy, feel comfortable with database usage, and have a deep regard for data integrity and analysis. We’re seeking someone with the ability to read maps, interpret legislation, and use math and statistics to support analysis. Our preferred candidate is someone who is enthusiastic about expanding their knowledge of property valuation and is willing to take the required courses to become an accredited Appraiser.
What you’ll get to do
Roll Preparation :
Apply mass appraisal techniques, follow by-laws and rules associated with value, identify building materials and record into database, apply exception criteria, and prepare assessment roles.
Input inventory, inspections, dimensions, satellite imagery and property owner information collected into database.
Inspect properties to determine value on an exception basis.
Audit and Quality Assurance :
Conduct routine audits, review data, queries, sort and compile data for analysis.
Role Defense :
Identify issues of the appeal, check appealed assessments for accuracy, prepare appraisal reports and analysis, manage appeal processes and procedures.
Represent BCA acting as an expert witness at appeals, present factual evidence, advise supervisors of advanced appeals, communicate and provide information to property owners.
Customer Service and Other Duties :
Represent BCA’s interests when interacting with clients, such as property owners while inspecting properties, and with local government staff when gathering information.
Exchange information and answers questions, follow up on routine customer inquiries, participate in project work, assist with orientation and explanations to new staff.
This role is part of the appraisal series and is a training position for the full working level (Appraiser II). To support you, BC Assessment has developed an Appraiser Progression program. It involves on-the-job training and fully funded education through UBC’s Sauder School of Business, providing a clear path for career advancement!
A valid BC Driver’s license is required for this role. This critical role may involve travel of up to 1-4 weeks per year, depending on location.

What you bring to the team
Education
An undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business Administration. Other undergraduate degrees may also be considered with a preference for Economics, Urban Geography, Urban Planning, or Engineering.
Completion of UBC course BUS 330 – ‘Foundations of Real Estate Appraisal’ leading toward certification as an accredited appraiser with either the RIBC or the AIC; or a commitment to complete this course within 12 months of appointment.
Possess a valid BC Driver’s License (Class 5 or 7).
