The Role
As an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team the post‑holder will work in partnership demonstrating compassionate caring behaviours to fulfil the key functions of the Alcohol and Drug Recovery Service (ADRS). In particular the post‑holder will be responsible for the assessment, formulation, implementation and evaluation of complex programmes of care using a strength based recovery focused approach to care that proactively involves the person and optimises self‑management. The post holder is required to undertake duties without direct supervision as well as supporting and supervising work undertaken by registered and unregistered nursing staff. The post holder is responsible for proactively promoting partnership working with patients, carers and other professionals / agencies in line with legislative frameworks, agreed standards and clinical policies. This involves working in a variety of home/near‑to‑home community environments. Participating in as well as providing regular Nurse Supervision and undertaking Nursing Line Management responsibilities are critical aspects of the role. Supervising the practice of others, monitoring undertaking mentorship / preceptorship responsibilities and supporting the team lead in the ongoing learning and development of the staff team are important key functions and aspects of this role. Caring is fundamental to nursing services and to all nursing functions. The core values of nursing must underpin the practice of every nurse and drive care that promotes positive and equitable engagement with patients, families and carers as the central focus of practice.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

- The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday
- Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours
Key Responsibilities
- Function as a Senior Addiction Nurse within a multi‑disciplinary team, managing a complex caseload and undertaking case management responsibilities when required
- Complete holistic assessments of care needs, including risk assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating programmes of care
- Carry out all relevant forms of nursing care tailored to individual patient needs in the least restrictive and least disruptive manner
- Identify, coordinate, and respond to the health promotion needs of patients, focusing on improving mental and physical wellbeing
- Identify, coordinate, and respond to needs related to vulnerability, gender, health, domestic abuse, adult/child protection, and self‑harm
- Work within competency‑based parameters and deliver evidence‑based psychological therapies or approaches in individual or group settings
- Administer prescribed medication / treatments in line with NHSGG&C policy; monitor treatment effectiveness and manage unwanted side effects
- Work in partnership with patients and carers using values‑based practice to deliver person‑centred care and support relapse prevention
- Participate in regular caseload / nurse line management and supervision, as well as performance appraisal and PDP development; provide supervision to others.
- Participate in regular supervision and reflective practice; facilitate reflective practice for others
- Monitor the practice and performance of Band 5 Nurses, Healthcare Support Workers, and junior staff, supporting their ongoing development
- Support and supervise learners, including student nurse mentorship, and contribute to improving the practice learning environment
- Take responsibility for identifying and addressing development needs for self and others to ensure safe, effective, person‑centred care
- Liaise with statutory and non‑statutory agencies across hospital and community settings, especially at the health and social care interface

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
- Registered Nurse Level 1 NMC registration with at least 2 years addiction experience or 2 years community experience at Band 5
- Educated to minimum degree level or equivalent
- Evidence of active and ongoing Continuing Professional Development
- Completion of an evidence‑based psychological therapies / psychological approaches formal programme of study
- Actively working towards postgraduate level study or equivalent
- Completed a recognised mentor preparation programme / registered mentor
- Completed or working towards non‑medical prescribing qualification
- Specialist knowledge and application of physical and/or mental health nursing care
- Specialist knowledge and application of risk assessment and factors impacting physical / mental health, wellness, and recovery.
- Evidence of supervision / reflective practice as a supervisor
- Excellent knowledge of values‑based practice
- Career development framework evidence of pillars of practice at Level 6 Senior Practitioner, including:
- Clinical practice safe, effective, person‑centred care
- Facilitation of learning

- Research and development
- Evidence of using digital technology / information systems, email and basic applications
