Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities and work with a vibrant European consortium of researchers?

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic doctoral researcher to join our team at the School of Civil Engineering, focusing on modelling the dispersion of microorganisms due to healthcare activities. The successful candidate will be part of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) doctoral network, . The HumanIC network will bring together leading academic teams from across Europe with hospital and healthcare HVAC industry partners to train early-stage engineers and scientists to enable a new approach to the human-centric indoor climate in Healthcare Environments. You will join a cohort of 11 doctoral researchers across seven European universities.

You will play an instrumental role in developing new computational models to describe the dispersion of airborne microorganisms from healthcare activities and validating the model using chamber and / or real-world data. You will use the models developed to gain an understanding of the air and surface exposure risk resulting from different transient releases, and the potential mitigating measures.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a vital research project and make a significant impact on healthcare safety standards. You will also have the opportunity for secondments with industrial and academic partners across Europe.

There are no restrictions on the nationality, but

• At the time of recruitment, applicants must not already be in possession of a doctoral degree;
• At the time of recruitment, applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (i.e. work, studies, etc.) in the UK for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment under the HumanIC project. Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status are not taken into account.
