Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Band 6 Occupational Therapist with at least 18 months post registration experience and a strong interest in rehabilitation to join our inpatient therapy team on Longleat Ward at Warminster Community Hospital, Wiltshire. This is a 12 month contract to cover maternity leave, offering an opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering holistic, patient-centred, evidence-based care.

HCRG Care Group is a forward thinking, innovative service provider delivering treatment and care across rural and suburban settings, supporting three acute trusts and developing new services to improve care in Wiltshire. Longleat Ward is a 25 bed inpatient ward with a multidisciplinary approach to the patient pathway. Conditions include orthopaedics, neurological, musculoskeletal, frailty, dementia and end of life.

Main duties

To be successful in the post you must demonstrate a keen interest in the care of older persons and be able to deliver high quality patient rehabilitation and discharge planning for complex patients within a community hospital ward environment using evidence-based practice. You must be able to prioritise and organise your caseload, support in the development of B5 OT staff and students, and be experienced in supporting and delegating to therapy assistants. You will be an excellent communicator, enthusiastic, flexible, able to work autonomously with strong clinical assessment and reasoning skills, and capable of leading on complex discharges. You should be motivated to work creatively to drive service development and place the patient at the centre of your work.

Ideal candidate

The following are required and desirable attributes.

Essential

  • HCPC Registered
  • Professional Qualification in Occupational Therapy
  • Evidence of ongoing education
  • Minimum of 2 years postgraduate experience as an Occupational Therapist
  • Experience across clinical specialties with a focus on complex discharge planning
  • Prescription of activities of daily living equipment
  • Broad range of OT skills gained through post-registration experience
  • Ability to manage complex situations and use initiative
  • Excellent communicator and time management

Desirable

  • Fieldwork supervision or mentorship course
  • MSK / Community / Acute work-based training
  • Leadership training
  • Experience in clinical or operational audits / evaluations
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in hospital and community settings
  • Supervision of other staff and ability to delegate clinical work
  • Use of electronic records
  • Other requirements :

  • Access to a vehicle for business purposes and a full, valid driving licence
