About the role

We have a fabulous opportunity for an individual to join the North Europe Packaging team as a Financial Planning & Controls Manager.

This is an 18-month Fixed Term Contract.

As our Financial Planning & Controls Manager, you will be a key member of the Regional Finance team, making a significant contribution to the co-ordination of the financial planning, governance, and management reporting processes across the North Europe Region, and to Divisional and Group teams. Working closely with senior stakeholders in the regions, you will be managing month end, half year and full year end reporting processes, ensuring clear and consistent analysis to be delivered to the Regional Management team, Division and Group.

From a planning perspective, you will be manage the delivery and continuous improvement of DS Smith’s financial planning cycle, both long and short term, and support decision making by providing analysis on actual performance and potential future trends. You will work closely with senior members of our Regional, Group and Divisional Finance functions to ensure alignment within the matrix organisation.

We want you to deliver insightful analysis on business performance and you will be expected to develop a strong understanding of the internal factors and external variables that impact the Region’s performance. You should be comfortable querying the status quo, identifying and implementing improvements to the way we work. To succeed in this role, you will need to be a confident relationship builder, working with a variety of stakeholders in the business, to both ensure compliance with all control requirements and add value beyond the day-day requirements of your role.

About you

  • Proven experience within a Financial Planning and / or Financial Control role, demonstrating a strong commercial outlook and the ability to gain credibility quickly
  • Excellent financial accounting knowledge (IFRS) with experience of managing complex accounting issues for a large (FTSE 250-100) company
  • An excellent relationship builder and communicator at all seniorities, collaborative, able to question our ways of working when appropriate
  • A good appreciation of regulatory and tax requirements
  • Able to link financial data to business performance, identifying issues and underlying drivers
  • A problem solver, delivery focussed, proactive and commercial
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and system skills
