Salary : £25,739.13 per annum

Contract : Permanent, full-time, 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Operative or Handyperson to join our team at HMP Exeter, a category B local men's prison in Exeter, as an Escort / Fabric Operative.

HMP Exeter functions like a self-contained city, requiring hundreds of staff to operate smoothly. Our Facilities Maintenance Team is committed to ensuring safe and efficient operations, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.

As an Escort / Fabric Operative, you will work alongside experienced colleagues such as Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators, all dedicated to maintaining a secure environment.

You will undertake basic maintenance tasks alongside tradespeople, both planned and reactive, and escort external contractors across the estate, ensuring security and support are prioritized.

We are a Ministry of Justice business providing critical, time-bound services to HMPPS. We seek an experienced Handyperson to join as an Escort / Fabric Operative with the following qualifications :

• Experience in a prison environment
• Experience with hand and power tools
• Previous experience in building fabric / Hard FM environment
• Up-to-date First Aid at Work Qualification
• Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
• Good Health & Safety knowledge
• Excellent organizational, time management, and people skills
