Job description

We are looking for an experienced and motivated UX/UI Designer. This will be a key role in designing and delivering user-centred digital experiences for multiple products within a larger interconnected suite. This role involves close collaboration with design, product management, engineering, and stakeholders to create clear, accessible, and consistent interfaces, as we approach our next exciting period of growth to help deliver our plans.

As a key member of our team, you would contribute to shaping user journeys and ensuring high-quality execution across defined project scopes with guidance. They support the evolution of existing design practices and systems, helping maintain cohesion and usability throughout the product suite.

We see this role as being full time, although this is negotiable. Ideally, we would like this role to be based in Edinburgh, Full-time, on a hybrid basis to allow for regular interaction with the wider business and colleagues in other departments.

What you will do

As a member of the Technology & Product Futures team your key responsibilities would be:

UX Research and Strategy

  • Applying UX principles independently to well-defined problems.
  • Conducting user research and usability testing to inform and validate design decisions.
  • Developing personas, user flows, and experience maps to support product direction.
  • Translating user needs and business requirements into simple, intuitive experiences across multiple products.

UX / UI Design Execution

  • Designing wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals for web and mobile interfaces.
  • Working within established design systems and UI pattern libraries, contributing updates where needed.
  • Ensuring design solutions are accessible, responsive, and aligned with brand guidelines.
  • Iterate on designs based on user insights, team feedback, and design critique.

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Partnering with product managers, engineers, and researchers to deliver polished solutions within defined project areas.
  • Share and discuss design work with clear rationale, remaining receptive to feedback.
  • Participating in design workshops, critiques, and cross-functional meetings, contributing a user-centred perspective.
  • Communicating progress and blockers clearly, adjusting designs based on team input.

Quality and Delivery

  • Delivering design work independently while managing timelines and priorities effectively.
  • Supporting developers during implementation to ensure accurate execution of designs across the product suite.
  • Maintaining a consistent standard of quality and coherence across multiple products and touchpoints.

Essential skills & experience

We see experience with the following as essential to the job:

  • 2 or more years of experience in UX/UI design for digital products.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Strong understanding of UX design principles and accessibility standards.
  • Ability to create clear wireframes, prototypes, and polished UI designs with minimal oversight.
  • Experience conducting usability testing and synthesising findings.
  • Familiarity with contributing to scalable design systems.

Personal skills

We’re especially looking for someone who:

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Reliable problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
  • Empathy for users and a commitment to creating high-quality experiences.
  • Openness to giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Customer-centric mindset with a passion for improving real-world workflows through technology.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple products and competing priorities.

We think that the following skills would definitely be valuable in this role:

  • Experience working in complex or technical domains.
  • Prior involvement in moderating user testing and research sessions.

What we can offer you

  • A competitive salary in the range of £35k-£45k depending on experience, with regular reviews.
  • A fantastic opportunity to join a growing, innovative, employee-centred business pushing boundaries in the space industry.
  • Flexible hours and hybrid working, enabling you to create your ideal work life balance.
  • 36 days paid holiday per annum.
  • Enhanced Company Sick Pay and Long-Term Sickness cover.
  • A Health Cash Plan to cover costs such as dental, physio and optical.
  • Life Assurance cover (x4 salary).
  • As a member of the Bright Ascension team you would have a stake in the business through our Employee Benefit Trust.
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay.
  • Opportunities for international travel for exhibitions and trade shows.
  • Investment in you and your skill development and the opportunity to attend relevant events and conferences to aid career / skill development.
  • Company events and regular activities for social engagement and team building.
  • An open, supportive, inclusive environment where you can explore your ideas and make a big difference to the product and business.
