Data Modeller
Purpose of the Role
The Data Modeller is responsible for shaping how data is structured, related, and represented across enterprise systems. This role focuses on creating clear, scalable, and business-aligned data models that support analytics, operational reporting, integrations, and system migrations. Acting as a translator between business concepts and technical implementation, the Data Modeller ensures data structures are intuitive, consistent, and future-proof.
Key Responsibilities
Conceptual, Logical & Physical Modelling
- Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models aligned to business needs and target architectures
- Translate business processes and requirements into well-defined entities, attributes, and relationships
- Ensure models support both transactional and analytical use cases
Stakeholder Engagement & Requirements Translation
Work closely with business analysts, product owners, and subject matter experts to understand data meaning and usageChallenge ambiguity in requirements and drive clarity in data definitions and structuresFacilitate workshops to validate models and align stakeholders on data conceptsStandards, Consistency & Governance
Apply modelling standards, naming conventions, and design patterns consistently across domainsEnsure alignment with enterprise data architecture principles and governance frameworksContribute to data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and reference modelsIntegration & Downstream Enablement
Design models that support system integrations, reporting, BI, and advanced analyticsCollaborate with data engineers and migration teams to ensure models are implementable and performantSupport impact analysis for changes to upstream or downstream systemsQuality, Performance & Scalability
Ensure models minimise redundancy, support data integrity, and enforce appropriate constraintsBalance normalisation with performance and usability considerationsAnticipate future growth, extensibility, and evolving business requirementsKey Skills & Experience
