About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive
Financial Controller
to take full ownership of the accounting and financial management across a group of businesses. This is a key role with both strategic and hands-on responsibilities, supporting the Board and operational teams to deliver strong financial control, reporting, and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Compliance
Full responsibility for all accounting functions, including ledgers, reconciliations, balance sheet management, invoicing, and month / period-end processing.
Ensure VAT, P11D, FCA, and other statutory returns are completed accurately and on time.
Maintain accurate base accounting records for all companies.
Manage payroll including consultant bonuses, PAYE, pensions, and expenses.
Oversight of statutory accounts, liaising with external auditors, and preparing pre- and post-year-end documentation.
Leadership & Oversight
Lead and develop the Finance function across all businesses, ensuring smooth operation of accounts payable, credit control, and payroll.
Mentor and develop the Assistant Accountant.
Act as the key point of contact for all Group finance matters.
Oversee financial IT systems (Dataflow and Intelligent Office).
Business Partnering & Reporting
Prepare budgets, forecasts, and timely monthly financial reports for the Board.
Provide weekly cash flow reporting and management.
Attend monthly Heads of Service meetings to support decision-making.
Analyse business trends and provide commercial insight across all companies.
Contribute to projects such as financial due diligence for potential acquisitions.
Strategic & Corporate Duties
Oversee Group treasury arrangements and manage banking relationships.
Review retained earnings for Employee Ownership Trust purposes.
Carry out company secretarial duties including shareholder / partner reporting, dividend payments, insurance, and Companies House notifications.
Develop systems, processes, and controls to support financial best practice across the group.
Support insurance renewals in collaboration with the Senior Compliance Officer.
About You
We are looking for a qualified or part-qualified accountant (QBE also considered) with proven experience in a senior financial role including team management, You will be highly organised, detail-focused, and commercially astute, with strong leadership skills and the ability to partner with both senior management and operational teams.
Ideally, youll be well versed with smaller businesses. Financial Services and FCA Regs exposure would be a distinct advantage
