Job description

We're working with a civil engineering contractor to recruit a Plant Operations Manager . This role is ideal for someone with excellent organisational skills and a proven ability to coordinate people, equipment, and processes in a fast-paced environment.

You'll be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of internal and external plant hire operations, ensuring clear planning, efficient utilisation of assets, and smooth collaboration across teams. Supporting the Plant Manager, you'll play a key part in driving operational improvements, supporting compliance, and managing both internal and external supply arrangements.

Key responsibilities include :

Coordinating daily plant hire operations, minimising downtime and duplication

Monitoring utilisation, investigating losses / damages, and driving improvements

Supporting compliance, toolbox talks, and departmental communications

Line managing stores and hire teams, with oversight of fleet / workshop functions when needed

Developing supplier agreements and supporting stock control for better cost efficiency

What we're looking for :

Strong coordination and organisational skills with a practical approach

Background in plant hire, logistics, or fleet operations (desirable but not essential)

Experience managing or supporting operational teams

Proficiency with MS Office and business / asset systems

Full UK driving licence (essential)
