Senior Design Engineer

Overview :

We are currently working in partnership with a well-established Tier 1 highways contractor on an exciting opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer to join their growing in-house design team. This is a fantastic chance to play a key role in the delivery of major infrastructure projects across the UK.

As Senior Design Engineer, you’ll lead the development of highway designs across a portfolio of maintenance and capital works schemes, acting as the technical point of contact between internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities :

Lead the design process on a range of highways projects from feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.

Produce and review detailed highway designs, drawings, calculations, and technical documentation in accordance with DMRB and other relevant standards.

Oversee junior engineers and ensure quality control across all design outputs.

Liaise with project managers, site teams, local authorities, and statutory bodies to ensure effective communication and delivery.

Provide input to design programmes, risk assessments, and cost plans.

Support the development of innovative and sustainable design solutions.

Conduct site visits and inspections where required.

Requirements :

Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.

Chartered or working toward Chartership (ICE or similar).

Extensive experience in highways engineering and design (local authority or strategic road network).

Strong knowledge of DMRB, CDM Regulations, and relevant highway design standards.

Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MX, or OpenRoads.

Excellent communication and leadership skills.
