Job description

Overview

The N&S CAMHS DBT Service is looking for an experienced CAMHS Clinical Specialist to join our Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) team. This is an opportunity to deliver high-quality, evidence-based DBT with young people and their parents / carers, and to be involved in research, service evaluation, teaching, supervision and consultation to other NHS teams. Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist clinical input to the N&S CAMHS DBT Service's DBT-A programme, including specialist assessment, treatment planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.
  • Deliver individual, group and phone-consultation interventions to young people and their parents / carers in adherence with the evidence-based DBT model.
  • Assess and manage risk, identify safeguarding concerns, and work to support young people and families with complex histories.
  • Be part of a supportive DBT consultation team and provide supervision to junior team members where appropriate.
  • Provide training to other professionals on working with young people with emotion dysregulation and high-risk behaviours and on DBT more generally.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary networks (social workers, GPs, local CAMHS care coordinators) to support young people and families effectively.
  • Support service-related research, service evaluation projects, and service development and improvements.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • First level nursing qualification / registration RMN or RNLD (A) OR Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or MSc PG Diploma or Doctorate in Counselling Psychology or equivalent nursing / family therapy / occupational therapy / social work qualification (A); OR Post Grad Diploma Specialist Training (A).
  • Registration (or eligibility) with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist or equivalent professional registration with AFT, UKCP, NMC or other body (A).
  • Training in clinical supervision (e.g., ENB998) or mentoring or equivalent experience / training (A).
  • Desirable

  • Formal training in DBT / DBT-informed approaches and / or evidence-based treatments for trauma (A).
  • Management qualification, management training, or line management experience (A).
  • Experience

  • Experience of psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment for individuals with complex mental health needs and high-risk behaviours (A / I).
  • Experience of developing and carrying out clinically focused projects (e.g., audit, service evaluation, quality improvement or research) (A / I).
  • Desirable Experience

  • Experience of assessment and treatment of emotion dysregulation, self-harm and suicidal behaviours. (A / I)
  • Knowledge and Skills

    Essential

  • Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and evidence base for relevant treatments (A / I).
  • Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care (A / I).
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and management for this client group (A / I).
  • Desirable

  • Knowledge of NICE guideline interventions for young people with emotion dysregulation and self-harm (A / I).
  • Skills

  • Deliver psychotherapeutic interventions across diverse client groups (A / I).
  • Plan and schedule assessments and interventions for individuals, groups and carers, including CPA and case reviews (A / I).
  • Work effectively with families / parents and / or carers (A / I).
  • Ability to select and interpret specialist mental health assessments and integrate data from multiple sources (A / I) (Desirable).
  • Abilities

  • Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and contribute to team functioning (A / I).
  • Manage emotionally stressful situations with survivors of abuse / trauma or individuals engaging in severe self-harming or aggressive behaviours (A / I).
  • Adapt psychotherapeutic interventions for individuals with protected characteristics (A / I) (Desirable).

    Flexible Working

    The Trust offers flexible working; role is typically Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., with occasional variations to meet service needs. This may include early starts, later finishes, or occasional Saturdays.
