Overview
The School of Mathematics is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (analogous to Assistant Professor) in Statistical Science and AI, to be interpreted as including Statistics, and mathematical, statistical and computational aspects of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. We are looking for a world-class researcher in any of these areas.
The School is one of the UK's leading centres for mathematics (Bristol was ranked 4th for Mathematical Sciences in the national REF2021 assessment). Comprising over 150 academic, research and professional services staff, the School has moved to its new home in the historic Grade II-listed Fry Building in the heart of the University precinct. Following a £33 million three-year renovation project, the Fry Building provides state-of-the-art facilities for mathematics teaching and research. Research in the School is organised around five research institutes and this position is attached to the Institute of Statistical Science. The Institute is a thriving research centre with expertise ranging from the theoretical foundations of Statistics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to high-impact, cross-disciplinary science and partnerships with industry. Major initiatives led by members of the Institute include the UKRI-funded INFORMED-AI and Probabilistic AI (Prob-AI) hubs and our BSc programme in Data Science.
