Now, as we scale, we’re searching for a visionary VP of Engineering to shape our technical future and help us redefine what’s possible in construction technology.

The Opportunity

We’re hiring a VP of Engineering to lead our technology function as we scale. This is a key executive role, owning our technical strategy, team, and delivery — with a strong product orientation and pragmatic use of AI. You will be taking over a fantastic team, building and scaling a world-class product. You would own everything related to the technical delivery of the product roadmap, ensuring excellence in engineering performance and culture, and the technology enablement and security of the business.

In this role, you'll engage with various teams throughout the organisation, fostering engineering collaboration with product, commercial, finance and operations. Reporting directly to Jade Cohen, Co-Founder, you will be the most senior engineering executive, a vital member of the executive leadership team and a key sparring partner to both founders (CEO & CPO).

You will be responsible for developing the technology strategy, creating a strategic roadmap for development initiatives in line with the business's broader vision and growth plans. Thinking strategically about how the engineering team and platform can develop over time and how the organisation can further leverage technology to improve its offering to support our customers, and growth across geographies and markets.

This is a “scale through excellence” moment — where the challenge is getting more value out of the existing platform, team, and systems. You’ll play a key role in setting up sustainable team growth, based on clear product traction and market wins — being a critical player in achieving our mission of providing data that empowers the world to build responsibly.

What will you be doing?

As Qflow’s VP of Engineering, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and scaling both our technology and our team. You will be a core member of the Senior Leadership Team, and your focus will span three core areas :

Set and lead the Engineering Strategy

  • Align the engineering strategy and roadmap to the product roadmap and company mission.
  • Work as a partner with the Product team. We expect you to own the ‘how’ for technical delivery, whilst Product owns the ‘what’ and ‘why’. Together, ensuring engineering and product roadmaps align tightly with customer and business value.
  • Identify and manage the technological and IT risks and opportunities across the business; keeping an eye on what’s coming over the hill and how we can leverage it to add value to customers, and implementing mitigation plans to manage risks appropriately.
  • Represent technology leadership with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and Board, investors, and clients as needed.
  • Ensuring good engineering and data governance, supporting third party certifications with our Operations team.

Inspire a high performing team and provide technical leadership

  • Lead and grow a department of engineers and managers across Platform, Data, and Quality, fostering collaboration, trust, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure good information flow, cooperation, and trust among teams; encourage and support learning.
  • Attract, hire, and develop top talent : recognising strengths, supporting learning, and creating space for innovation while upholding high standards of accountability and quality.
  • You create space for innovation, without creating chaos; you have a proven ability to inspire engineers to take ownership and try bold ideas, while holding a high bar on quality, accountability, and trust.

    • Drive engineering excellence and scalable delivery

  • Own the engineering budget, delivery processes, quality, and performance.
  • Take end-to-end accountability for technical strategy, architecture, and execution. We don’t expect you to be hands-on coding, but we do expect you to remain close enough to the codebase to review designs, guide implementation, and challenge or unblock engineers when needed.
  • Evolve our platform to support multi-product, multi-market scale while remaining lean and pragmatic.
  • Apply AI tools to deliver measurable business value, not novelty.
  • Champion data quality and security, focusing on value provided, not work done.

    • Some example projects we have coming up, that we’d expect you to be driving forward :

  • International expansion – we are continuing to expand in North America, and preparing for opportunities in Europe with a significant, strategic client. You’ll need to help us identify and implement the appropriate localisation needed in our mobile app and web platform, including handling different languages through LLMs and our internal quality control processes.
  • Supporting industry ‘design verification’ – by extracting more intelligence and insight from construction design documentation, and matching this with construction site data we’re already capturing in our system, to prevent materials-related mistakes during construction.
  • Creating new value through data insights – now that we have captured significant volumes of data across hundreds of construction sites, we can now unlock new value propositions through more intelligent data insights and patterns that we can find in this data. For example, being able to predict when a programme delay may occur.

    • What we’re looking for

  • Demonstrated leadership in maintaining high-trust engineering teams and tech culture.
  • Experience scaling a B2B SaaS or applied AI product from Series A to C (or equivalent growth stage).
  • Experience working in an engineering leadership role in a fast-growing start-up or scaleup and therefore familiar with volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity of growth stages. You should have the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Ideally, you have been through the transitions from start-up to scaleup and beyond.
  • Strong track record of shipping real-world systems using AI / ML APIs or models (e.g. OpenAI, Azure, etc.), with experience in working with complex data pipelines and architecture. Whilst Qflow’s functional product consists of a web platform, mobile app, and APIs, our actual product is the data that our product collects. Data is something we obsess over, and opens up future commercial and product opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams; a real team player.
  • Experience in hiring exceptional team members.
  • Strong customer-centric focus on development, taking a more comprehensive commercial approach to technology strategies.
  • You see Qflow’s edge as how well the tech is applied and used (data, UI, workflows, integrations), not in algorithmic novelty.
  • Expertise in one or more core programming languages, such as Python, C#, Typescript or related languages.
  • Experience in SaaS, quality and security and knowledge of the technical role in Legal and compliance : IP, Data transfers etc.

    • In summary, we need you to help scale our product and look at the horizon for new opportunities that we can take advantage of, to stay ahead of the curve. We need you to excite and challenge the team, without getting stuck in the weeds. We’ve built the foundations, now we need someone to help take this to the next level.
