Locum Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Whipps Cross University Hospital

10 PA Fixed Term )

3-6 months

The post is based on the Whipps Cross University Hospital site to provide Consultant care to patients in the Margaret Centre Specialist Palliative Care Unit and the Community Palliative Care Team in Waltham Forest. This post provide opportunity to working flexibly across the trust providing excellent palliative care to the people of East London.

There are options to provide sessions to Waltham Forest Community Team and to the Margaret Centre until the hospital is redeveloped. Sessions at St Joseph's Hospice can also be arranged.

We would be happy to consider candidates wanting to work part-time (minimum 6 PAs) or job share.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate would be expected to work with the local and existing wider teams in providing inpatient and outpatient management for patients with palliative care needs, and to participate in the associated teaching programmes.

The successful candidate will also build on the existing good working relationships that exist with all departments across the Trust and with other palliative care services locally.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or Equivalent Specialist qualification
  • Full GMC Registration with license to practice

Desirable

  • Higher research degree (MD, PhD, MD (Res))
  • Other qualifications which might enhance the provision of the service Teaching qualification, management qualification
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Have experience in the management of resources
  • Evidence of experience in Specialist Palliative Care in different settings
  • Able to take responsibility of service without direct supervision
  • Desirable

  • Excellent publication record
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Evidence of board based knowledge and experience in specialised palliative care in different settings.
  • Skills

    Essential

  • Evidence of leadership
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and with colleagues at different locations
  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Other

    Essential

  • Other qualifications which might enhance the provision of the service Teaching qualification, management qualification and family members and all the members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Good knowledge of, and the ability to use, spoken and written English
  • Ability to work across sites
