Job Description : Engineering Manager – Fast-Paced Food ManufacturingPosition : Engineering ManagerLocation : AbergavennySalary : Up to £85,000 + benefitsType : Full-Time, PermanentOverview : We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Engineering Manager to join a Strong Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This critical role demands a versatile professional who can balance hands-on involvement with strategic oversight, fostering a high-performing engineering team to drive excellence.As a pivotal member of the SLT, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align engineering initiatives with the broader business strategy, ensuring production processes remain robust, efficient, and competitive. This role is ideal for a confident leader with exceptional problem-solving skills who thrives under pressure and is passionate about continuous improvement.Key Responsibilities : Leadership & Strategy :
- Act as a key contributor to the Senior Leadership Team, shaping the long-term vision and operational strategy for the site.
- Develop and execute the engineering strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and professional growth.
- Collaborate with other SLT members to prioritise and deliver key projects on time and within budget.Operational & Hands-On Engagement :
- Take an active role in day-to-day engineering operations, including troubleshooting, problem resolution, and overseeing critical projects.
- Lead by example, stepping into the team when necessary to solve technical challenges or provide direction during high-pressure situations.
- Champion preventative maintenance strategies to reduce downtime, optimize asset performance, and enhance efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards across all engineering activities.Continuous Improvement :
- Identify and implement best practices to drive innovation and efficiency in manufacturing processes.
- Analyse engineering data and KPIs to identify trends and opportunities for process optimisation.
- Manage capital projects from inception to completion, ensuring the delivery of cost-effective and scalable solutions.Budget & Resource Management :
- Oversee the engineering budget, ensuring cost controls and value for money.
- Manage contracts and relationships with external suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
- Ensure the engineering team is adequately resourced, both in terms of personnel and equipment, to meet current and future demands.Qualifications & Experience :
- Proven experience in an Engineering Manager or similar leadership role, ideally within a fast-paced manufacturing environment (food manufacturing preferred).
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, combined with a hands-on, can-do attitude.
- Demonstrated success in managing both day-to-day engineering operations and long-term strategic initiatives.
- Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes, machinery, and automation systems.
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulations, including food safety, HSE, and compliance requirements.Skills & Competencies :
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Strong project management skills with a proven ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
