Job description

Job Description

Full-Time, Contractual location of Bridgwater, 3-4 days a week in office, work from home available.

Are you confident in your ability to lead commercial strategies across complex, high-value contracts while aligning with project delivery goals? Are you comfortable influencing senior stakeholders and navigating commercial decisions that impact both budget and programme? Are you someone who thrives on building high-performing teams and driving continuous improvement in commercial delivery?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as our next Commercial Lead here at Hinkley Point C!

The Opportunity

The role of Commercial Lead is a high-impact, senior position at the heart of the HPC Commercial Group. You’ll play a crucial part in driving the commercial success of a portfolio of contracts, reporting to both the HPC Project Delivery Manager and the Commercial Director. With the authority to make key decisions across core accountability areas, you’ll help shape outcomes that are vital to the delivery of the HPC project.

As the go-to commercial contact for your assigned portfolio, you’ll work closely with a wide range of stakeholders across Nuclear New Build. Your ability to collaborate, influence, and lead will ensure that the commercial aspects of the project align with its wider goals and are delivered effectively and efficiently.

Pay, benefits and culture

In addition to a salary of £90,000 depending on experience, we offer flexible benefits that support our employees’ physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. Examples include : a market-leading company pension scheme, a bonus plan, health cover, electric vehicle leasing, mental health support and employee discounts.

At EDF, everyone is welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We would like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We are a disability confident employer and will do all we can to support you through your recruitment journey with us.  If you would like to talk about adjustments, or support you may need, please note this within your application.

We will value the difference you bring and give you opportunities to thrive and succeed.

What you will be doing

As a Commercial Lead, you’ll take ownership of delivering strategic commercial outcomes across a single contract or a portfolio of contracts, playing a key role in shaping both the direction and performance of your team. With a strong focus on leadership, stakeholder engagement, and driving continuous improvement, you’ll influence not only how contracts are developed and executed, but also how risks are managed and value is delivered across the project lifecycle. This role provides an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on one of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure projects. Additional roles and responsibilities include :

  • Lead a commercial team to manage either a single contract or a portfolio of contracts
  • Drive the professional development of both yourself and your team, fostering a high-performance culture
  • Ensure implementation of all commercial team accountabilities in line with HPC’s commercial procedures
  • Take the lead during the procurement phase, aligning the contract strategy with the overall project plan and ensuring a robust procurement route and programme
  • Manage the execution phase of each contract, overseeing compatibility and alignment with other contracts across scope, pricing, personnel, and administration
  • Develop and implement commercial strategies for high-value or high-risk project components
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, embedding lessons learned from previous projects
  • Own the management of commercial risks tied to supplier performance and delivery outcomes
  • Engage with a broad range of stakeholders including executives, external partners, and regulatory bodies
  • Take responsibility for budget oversight, ensuring value and control throughout the contract lifecycle

Who you are

To thrive in this role, you'll bring a solid foundation in commercial management, backed by membership in a recognised professional body such as RICS, CICES, or IOB, and a degree-level education. Your experience working with major project environments—particularly within the power construction industry—will be essential, especially if you’re familiar with NEC and FIDIC forms of contract and have a strong grasp of UK law and how it shapes commercial and contractual decision-making.

You’ll also understand the regulatory demands of working in a nuclear environment, including site licence conditions and the nuclear baseline philosophy. A good knowledge of the UK regulatory framework is key, as is an understanding of supply chain management both domestically and internationally. Additional requirements for this role include :

  • Strong commercial and contract management expertise, with a solid grasp of best practice methodologies
  • Proven success working as part of a Project Senior Management Team, leading commercial teams and delivering high-performing contracts
  • Sharp commercial instincts and the confidence to make well-informed decisions with significant financial impact
  • Demonstrated leadership in commercial management, backed by deep knowledge of UK-specific contract practices
  • Solid experience in procurement, performance tracking, risk management, and navigating change and claims with confidence
  • Applications for this role close : Monday 5th May
