Senior Civil Engineer

Overview

BG&E is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our London office as part of a growing civil engineering team. You will work with the Civils Lead to support and grow the team, collaborating with other office disciplines and our geotechnical consultancy. The role involves varied work across infrastructure, industrial and property sectors at different design stages, with UK-focused projects and opportunities to work internationally.

Responsibilities

• Manage a design team and provide guidance and mentoring to junior members
• Deliver engineering services / projects across water, utilities, transport, and industrial sectors
• Produce civil engineering designs in coordination with other disciplines’ teams
• Work collaboratively with other consultants and colleagues
• Undertake and review design calculations and specifications
• Coordinate production of construction drawings
• Prepare technical reports at feasibility, concept and detailed design stages
• Liaise with clients and develop relationships
• Apply extensive experience in civil engineering project delivery (earthworks, roads, drainage and flooding)
• Work on infrastructure project designs
• Obtain necessary approvals from regulatory bodies
• Contribute to multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy projects
• Demonstrate technical review / assurance skills
• Work with 2D & 3D design software (AutoCAD, Civil3D)
• Use drainage design software (MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage)
• Apply design standards and codes of practice (e.g., foul / surface water sewers, SuDS Manual, Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Manual for Streets)
• Apply health and safety requirements and CDM 2015
• Exhibit excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• Lead, develop and grow engineering teams
• Manage projects effectively
• Work with Highways Authority Sections 38 / 278 and Water Authority Sections 104 / 185
• Site supervision experience
• Apply BIM in projects
• Engage with project stakeholders such as planning authorities, Environment Agency and DNOs
