Job description

We have a vacancy for a Trust Specialty Registrar in Neurosurgery, on a fixed-term contract starting as soon as possible for an initial period of 6 months. The possibility of extension beyond this period is likely if progress is satisfactory. All applicants must possess the essential qualifications for the post, as outlined in the person specification, by the closing date.

Main duties of the job

The South West Neurosurgery Centre is based at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. The unit is a Major Trauma Centre providing comprehensive neurosurgical services to the population of Devon and Cornwall. The area has an approximate population of 1.8 million, which increases during the summer months due to visitors from across the UK and abroad. The centre maintains close links with district general hospitals in Truro, Barnstaple, Exeter, and Torbay. This role offers excellent experience for aspiring neurosurgical trainees.

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Successful completion of MRCS or equivalent at the time of application

Education

  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by the time of appointment in line with GMC standards and Good Medical Practice, including :
  • Good clinical care
  • Maintaining good medical practice
  • Good relationships and communication with patients
  • Good working relationships with colleagues
  • Good teaching and training
  • Professional behaviour and probity
  • Delivery of good acute clinical care
  • Evidence of achievement of CT / ST1 competencies in neurosurgery at the time of appointment and projected completion of CT / ST2 competencies in neurosurgery by the time of appointment
  • Evidence of operative experience in neurosurgery
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
