What you'll be doing

You'll be coming up with and developing book ideas that will fly in both English-language and foreign markets : commissioning authors, illustrators and designers. Subject areas might include lifestyle, wellness and self-improvement, nature and science, in full colour and sometimes in b\ / w. You will keep close tabs on publishing, social media and market trends in order to spot smart commissioning opportunities. You will be responsible for your own book schedules including briefing and overseeing a team of out-of-house editors, designers and illustrators. You will be an enthusiastic champion of your books from conception through to publication and beyond - collaborating closely with marketing, publicity, sales and rights. This is an exciting, varied and highly creative role within a small, friendly team of five.

Who we are looking for

Reporting to the Publisher, the successful applicant will have a strong commercial sense, be bursting with non-fiction ideas and adept at finding authors, illustrators, designers and brands that will make each book truly stand out in the market. We are looking for books that may well hit a trend in the UK but will have a long life, selling in multiple languages around the world. The right candidate will have international awareness, as well as be a keen observer of trends within publishing and beyond. Experience of commissioning or editing illustrated books is preferred.

This role can be based at our London office, or at our regional offices in Sheffield, Bristol, or Edinburgh, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
