Job description

Job overview

We have a great job for an organised and efficient SLT with Voice, Head and Neck cancer, Tracheostomy and Acute Ward experience and skills. This will be primarily at Doncaster Royal Infirmary but may require some work at Bassetlaw Hospital as service needs and staffing require.

You'll be joining a warm and well established team which provides videofluoroscopy, FEES, has a developing funded Critical Care SLT / AHP team, a developing funded acute Respiratory SLT service, a twice monthly Joint Voice Clinic and SLT-led nasendoscopy biofeedback sessions.

Main duties of the job

You will provide :

Inpatient and outpatient Head and Neck SLT services alongside the Head and Neck MDT and the existing Head and Neck SLT Team members as well as being part of the Regional Head and Neck MDT.

Outpatient voice assessment, therapy and management on a face to face and telehealth basis

Inpatient and outpatient tracheostomy work as / if needed, alongside our Specialist Respiratory SLTs.

Inpatient acute ward sessions alongside the existing Acute Ward Team on a weekday basis.

Supervision and mentoring of our Band 5 team and Support Worker staff.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working with adults with communication disorders caused by a wide range of aetiologies
  • Experience of working with adult patients within specialisms of head & neck cancer, tracheostomy and dysphagia
  • Experience of working in and managing caseloads in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Experience of working with dysphonic patients of varying aetiology
  • Experience of working with complex ethical issues regarding swallowing, and nutrition and hydration including in palliative and end of life circumstances
  • Experience of working as part of an MDT
  • Experience of working in an acute ward setting
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Knowledge of national and local policy, speech and language therapy standards of care within specialisms

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in supervision of other members of the Speech and Language Therapy team
  • Experience in supervision of Speech and Language Therapy students up to final year examination level

    Essential criteria

  • Professional specific degree i.e. BSC speech sciences or Masters in medical sciences
  • Certificate to Practise
  • Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Member of the Healthcare Professions Council
  • Skills and experience in assessment, treatment and management of patients with dysphagia and head and neck cancer
  • Voice training
  • Post basic training in dysphagia management
  • Tracheostomy training
  • Desirable criteria

  • Videofluoroscopy Competencies including MBSImp Certification
  • Maxillofacial – post surgical management training
  • Surgical Voice Restoration and Laryngectomy training
