Joining our Depot Management Team you will be working with the Operations Manager supporting the Depot. This is a key role ensuring the smooth running of the parcel shop operations within the Depot which is managed on the day shift.

Our  Day Shift Van Manager  is fully accountable for the performance of the parcel shop drivers whilst proactively seeking ways to improve cost, service and operational efficiency. You will ensure all resources including third parties are managed, planned and controlled to achieve the agreed service levels and ensure correct processes are implemented, maintained and led through continuous improvement.

The  Day Shift Van Manager  will be a role model of behaviours and lead our health and safety  Go Home Safe  message.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Managing  all areas of the day parcel shop operations, sortation and transportation in an efficient cost-effective manner.
  • People Management  – recruitment / induction and ongoing engagement of Warehouse drivers and ongoing performance and attendance management, submission of daily debrief with drivers and weekly reports required.
  • Compliance  – Legalities, Management of domestic driving hours (breaks / length of shifts / rest periods). Additional support on all driver compliance in depots
  • Resourcing  – planning of local routes to ensure effective delivery of parcels, effective utilisation of rosters.
  • Cost Management  - Budget Management to achieve the agreed service levels including productivity, labour costs, overtime usage, agency usage.
  • Plan & Budget  - Collaboration with planning teams and Central Van Manager and DGM including planning and preparation for peak.

SKILLS / QUALS

  • Transport knowledge, skills or experience including regulations.
  • Strong Operational knowledge of the end to end processes
  • Must be able to work on own initiative in a pressurised environment to tight deadlines
  • CPC National Certificate is desirable
  • Full driving licence is required.
  • IOSH Qualified
  • Advanced understanding of Management Information and Excel spreadsheets. Good Ability with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Demonstrate ability to understand cost controls, data reports, MI and KPI metrics.
  • Experience in managing and leading a team.
