Pastoral Support Officer – Fareham, Hampshire

Do you have the compassion, resilience, and dedication to support students' well-being and success?

GSL Education are looking for a committed and proactive Pastoral Support Officer to join a secondary school in Fareham. This full-time role offers a competitive salary between £30,000 and £50,000 per year , with a permanent contract available after a successful probation period . The position starts from Easter 2025 or September 2025 , and the school welcomes applicants with experience in pastoral care, youth work, or transferable skills .

Responsibilities of the Pastoral Support Officer :

  • Provide one-to-one and group support to students facing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external agencies to promote student well-being .
  • Implement strategies to improve attendance, behaviour, and engagement in learning.
  • Act as a trusted mentor , offering guidance and encouragement to students who need additional support.
  • Manage and resolve conflicts , promoting a positive and inclusive school environment.
  • Support safeguarding procedures, always ensuring student safety and well-being.

Requirements of the Pastoral Support Officer :

  • Previous experience in pastoral support, youth work, mentoring, SEN, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and families .
  • The ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy, confidentiality, and professionalism .
  • A calm and patient approach to supporting students with complex needs .
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
