Job description

JOB PURPOSE

The Refurbishment & Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the planning, management and execution of all outfitting projects for a full class of MSC vessels.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Identifies the needs from little to major outfitting works to keep the assigned class of vessels in good shape;
  • Frequently visits the shipyard site or the vessels for inspections on the maintenance of the ship interiors;
  • Leads, tracks and upholds the overall outfitting works planned for the assigned class of vessels;
  • Leads an efficient supervision process ensuring that goals, quality and standards / guidelines are met, projects are on budget, ship readiness is on time;
  • Leads mock-up reviews and first of production inspection of public spaces, guest staterooms, corridors, etc. Not responsible for technical areas such as machinery, casings, HVAC rooms, etc.;
  • Controls and coordinates eventual modifications within these areas with operation departments, designers and architects;
  • Reports on work in progress focusing on time schedules, critical path milestones, costs, completion of inspections and quality;
  • Identifies and mitigates risks, resolve problems quickly and effectively to keep the project going;
  • Creates and delivers large to small-scale presentations at executive level;
  • Maintains good relations with all internal stakeholders, including shipyard management, coordinators and contractors;
  • Follows up identifying and coordinating repairs falling within the contractual guarantee period agreed with yard / suppliers;

QUALIFICATIONS (skills, competencies, experience)

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); Knowledge of French or Italian is a plus;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural or Naval Architectural is preferred but not essential;
  • 3 years minimum experience as Refurbishment Supervisor or Site Manager;
  • Good IT skills, particularly MS Word, Excel (including use of formulas and tables), Power Point, AutoCAD / MicroStation and Rhino;
  • Proven knowledge of SOLAS and IMO;
  • Ability to read detailed design and technical drawings;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with strong ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and across diverse cultures;
  • Hands-on” management skills; Possesses self-motivation with ability to mobilize people and resources to action, within a high-paced environment
  • Excellent organisation skills and proven ability to manage multiple projects / activities in a dynamic fast pace environment as well as possessing the ability to work under tight schedules and to endure challenging situations in high stress situations.
