SCUK sees Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT)as the catalysts that will drive our organisational transformation. We want to empower DDaT experts with the agility and customer-centricity to meet the ever-changing needs of their stakeholders, our supporters, and the external context.

We are now working to realise that vision. Our ambitious 3-year strategy sets out to shift us from a traditional IT function with scattered digital and data expertise into a more cohesive user experience-first, product-based approach. As part of a wider organisation change agenda (currently called the Organisation of the Future), we are looking to DDaT to facilitate a lighter process footprint aligned with Agile values, and a digital ready and data enabled workplace.

About the Role

As the Deputy Director of Portfolio & Transformation Delivery you will be part of a DDaT Leadership Team who will lead the delivery and evolution of our DDaT strategy, acting as a change agent to deliver a fundamental shift in the DDaT mindset and culture, capabilities, ways of working and drive clear business outcomes.

Your Key Accountabilities :

  • Leadership :   Provide clear and directive leadership to the DDaT Transformation and Delivery team, ensuring the team is diverse, inclusive, and outward facing. Manage and collaborate with cross-functional teams, to evolve the collective to high-performing. Foster a collaborative, inquisitive, and innovative culture within service delivery and operational roles.
  • DDaT Transformation :   Work closely with the Chief Digital and Technology Officer and DDaT Leadership Team, to shape and deliver Digital, Data and Technology transformation and mindset shifts across the organisation. Ensuring Technology is seen as a trusted partner, is flexible in meeting ever changing needs of the organisation and delivers cost-effectively in a lean and agile way.
  • DDaT Roadmap :   Custodian of the 3-year DDaT roadmap, ensuring that it is aligned with and enables wider organisational strategy and objectives. Manages centralised DDaT spend at an enterprise level, ensuring alignment to organisational strategy. Focusing on value, benefits realisation, consistency of procurement and ROI. Creates, Monitors and Controls supplier benchmarking initiatives to inform decision-making on supplier and application / tool consolidation to drive cost savings.
  • Governance :  Closely align with SCUK business planning, delivering a user-centric strategic portfolio of DDaT services. Ensures investments have appropriate business cases, Total-Cost-of-Ownership, and benefits management. Lead regular reviews and inform where needed which product development initiatives need to start, stop, or put on-hold, prioritising those that are delivering business value and value-for-money. Balances central oversight with enabling greater delivery.
  • DDaT Partners : Line Manage three Business Partners - DDaT is seen as a strategic business partner that digitally enables the organisation., delivering value and driving impact. Work is triaged and prioritised through effective partnering, using a flexible resource model to deliver both ‘heartbeat' work and organisational objectives. Openness and transparency are core principles, with project progress regularly shared.
  • Agile Ways-of-Working :   Champion and advocate Agile-first ways-of-working, Agile in product development, encourage more user-centric in how we deliver and support a more collaborative iterative approach. Work closely with Organisation of the Future to deliver agile practices at an enterprise level, promoting alignment, collaboration, and delivery at scale.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration -  Use technology resources and tooling to drive strategic decision-making across the Leadership Team regarding business priorities, and areas of commercial opportunity, and to help unblock challenges. Work closely with the DDaT Leadership team to deliver the Organisation of the Future programme, ensuring that digital, data and technology are key enablers for staff to deliver impact.
  • Technology and Tools :   Remaining updated on emerging technologies and tools and recommending their adoption when relevant. Sponsor common platforms and capabilities across SCUK. Form effective relationships with external partners and suppliers and keep SCUK in close touch with leading-edge developments in the use of technology.

To be successful, you'll bring :

  • Experience of leading Transformational functions (digital, data etc.)
  • Broad and deep experience of project and programme management and demonstrable knowledge and experience in the use of programme and project management tools and methodologies
  • Proven record of managing a team of professional staff and evidence of recruiting, developing, and retaining high performing talent.
  • Ability to write proposal documents and support the DDaT and colleagues in the organisation in developing business cases.
  • Experience in leading and supporting cross organisational change to deliver business transformation.
  • Evidence of strong leadership skills that empower and motivate teams while building trust and accountability.
  • Effective communication skills and stakeholder management, influencing at all levels from junior colleagues through to the CSLT and ELT members.
  • The ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and build strong long-term relationships.
  • Experience in implementing governance processes to engender a framework that is clear as to what initiatives to stop and start, and which will deliver the highest business value.
  • Self-awareness and excellent relationship building abilities.
  • Willingness to constantly learn, including from feedback and to flex approach as needed to deliver impact with others.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with multiple audiences, in multiple formats and on multiple platforms.
  • An agile mindset : able to adapt, learn and collaborate to achieve impact.
  • A deep understanding and awareness of diversity, inclusion and belonging / EDI and a proven ability to bring that awareness and understanding to life in your work.
