Join Our Team as a SEND Teaching Assistant!

Location : Loughton, Essex

Type : Full-Time

Are you driven by a passion for helping children with special educational needs thrive? We’re seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support children and young people aged 3–19 with a range of complex needs, including autism (ASD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), and challenging behavior.

Your Role Will Include :

  • Tailored Support : Provide one-to-one and group assistance, adapting your approach to meet individual needs and help students reach their potential.
  • Promoting Independence : Empower children to develop essential life skills and build confidence in and out of the classroom.
  • Positive Engagement : Use creative and practical strategies to encourage active participation and progress.
  • Behavioral Support : Apply excellent de-escalation techniques and create a calm, safe learning environment for all pupils.
  • Holistic Care : Assist with personal care needs where necessary, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
  • Team Collaboration : Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure a consistent, supportive approach to learning and development.

What We’re Looking For :

  • Experience or Interest in SEND : Previous experience with ASD, SLD, PMLD, or challenging behavior is ideal, but enthusiasm and a genuine interest are just as important.
  • Resilience & Adaptability : Flexibility and a positive attitude are key in this varied and rewarding role.
  • Strong Communication Skills : Build trust and rapport with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Understanding of SEN Practices : Knowledge of relevant strategies, including those for the EYFS, KS1, and beyond, is a bonus!

    • Qualifications & Skills :

  • NVQ Level 2 / 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent is preferred.
  • Good English and Mathematics skills are desirable.
  • Previous experience with personal care or manual handling is advantageous, though training will be provided.

    All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
