What we are recruiting for :

At VVB, we are currently recruiting for a Senior Electrical Engineer. To provide complete electrical engineering services to projects through design and engineering to completion. This will involve all stages from tendering, design and engineering, FAT attendance, support to installation, testing, commissioning and handover. Engineering and Supervisory / Management support to electrical installations throughout the projects to ensure successful delivery from a HSE, programme, quality, compliance, and commercial perspective.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Receives operational supervision and technical guidance from Head of Electrical Engineering, Project Managers, Sector Managers / Sector Directors and Group Operation Director.
  • Undertaking electrical engineering and design (up to 33KV level) in line with all current standards. Key considerations should be safety, maintainability, ease of installation, design sustainability and environmental impact.
  • Undertaking electrical engineering system studies / modelling with associated electrical software programme with suitable offline checks (e.g., electrical system studies include load flow, short circuit, static motor starting study, transformer energization study, protection coordination study, harmonic analysis, arc flash studies, equipment sizing calculation, cable size calculation, earthing calculation, etc.).
  • Undertaking electrical design review in line with current standards and to ensure buildability and constructability. Identify any weakness or errors in the design that could jeopardise the functionality. Ensure HSE best practices are always followed.
  • Ensure Design Risk Assessment (DRA) is compliant with installation parameters.
  • Provide engineered solutions to key project problems to satisfy clients expectations, project restrictions and budget considerations.
  • Management of all associated design registers, meeting minutes, drawing registers etc. as appropriate in line with VVB and project requirements. Ensure all formal communication is undertaken and managed (RFI’s, TQ’s, EWN’s, MAR’s etc.)
  • Direct liaison with CAD team to ensure correct drawing modelling, to BIM or other standards. Review drawings for clash detection and associated interface problems.
  • Engineering man-hours estimation, input to engineering execution plan and project execution plan.
  • Development of scope documents for tenders and procurement processes.
  • Liaison with manufacturers to determine product suitability, in partnership with procurement. Attendance at FAT and SAT (and any other required stage) to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Direct liaison with installation teams to ensure design suitability, works methodology and solve key installation issues / constructability queries.
  • Working with the commercial department to track design change and variances.
  • Working with the planning department to plan design, installation and T&C works. Provision of accurate assessment on forecast works to complete and provide suitable readjustments to ensure project programme is maintained.
  • Management of Subcontractor / Sub-consultant’s works as appropriate including assisting commercial department in valuation and contract support.
  • Ensure design and works comply with VVB and client design / engineering management and quality management system procedures.
  • Requires knowledge of industry and regulatory codes and standards, and design criteria pertinent to the design, engineering and construction of power, utilities and infrastructure sectors.
  • Key Requirements :

  • Proficiency in Low and High Voltage (up to 33kV) power distribution system design in infrastructure projects and selection of equipment for the same.
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical engineering and installations legislation and standards, and all other associated standards and legislations from Low Voltage to High Voltage level (up to 33kV).
  • Knowledge of engineering and design processes and associated compliance.
  • Utilisation of Electrical design packages (Amtech / Trimble, Cymap, ETAP, etc).
  • Familiarity with 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulation.
  • A recognised degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university.
  • Registered member of either IET or CIBSE or other recognised Engineering Council Institutions.
  • Substantial experience within Rail, Power and Infrastructure Electrical Design Engineering position.
  • The contracted location for this role is Old Oak Common, supporting the HS2 Project. The position will require work across Central London and Acton (OOC site), with the specific location varying depending on project phases. During the design phase, expected to span the next 12–18 months, the majority of work will be based in Central London - Southwark area.
