The NHS in Wales is offering 1 salaried post-graduate training programme in Clinical Engineering for high-calibre science graduates who are passionate about science and its role in patient care.
The Trainee Clinical Scientist will be employed by the host organisation for a fixed term of three years. During this time, they will work through a work-based programme of learning. This will be combined with an academic programme at masters (MSc) level over the three-year period.
The first part of the academic programme will introduce the basic science and theoretical background of the rotational disciplines and their application in clinical science within health, as well as providing an introduction to healthcare services and values. The master's degree includes a research project within year 2 / 3.
Main duties of the job
The Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) at Swansea Bay UHB plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and reliability of 40,000 medical devices throughout their lifecycle. The team focuses on comprehensive Device Risk Management and Governance (DRMG), including investigating adverse incidents, conducting audits, and enhancing systems through quality improvement initiatives. MEMS collaborates with healthcare professionals, manufacturers, and regulatory bodies to address issues such as Field Safety Notices and implement corrective actions. By driving innovative projects and contributing to national guidance revisions, MEMS upholds patient safety and optimises healthcare delivery. The department empowers aspiring clinical scientists to create impactful change.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and / or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

This is a three-year post-graduate programme, and the successful candidates will be employed by an NHS Wales organisation for the duration of their training and will be based in one of :
The training is aligned with the Scientific Training Programme (STP) and supported by the National School of Healthcare Science. Posts are due to commence in September 2025.
