Introduction

We're seeking an experienced Principal Lawyer to lead the Legal - Place team at Lewisham. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the team which will be working in a challenging and fast paced environment. You will have a significant contribution to make on decisions affecting Legal Services including assisting in developing and implementing future strategy.

What’s the role?

You will report to the Head of Legal Services and will supervise a team of lawyers and assistants across the Contracts, Education, Employment, Planning and Environment and Property teams. The role will involve working in a collaborative manner with the wider legal team, client departments, councillors, external legal advisers and members of the public. You will be expected to support the Legal Team, by attending evening Council and Committee meetings as required.

What we’re looking for

You will have the legal knowledge and experience commensurate with a solicitor, barrister or CILEX with extensive post qualification experience of one or more of the following areas of law, preferably in a local government setting :

  • Regeneration
  • Property
  • Procurement and Contracts
  • Planning
  • Environmental Law and public realm
  • Commercial Law
  • Education
  • Employment
  • You will have an ability to work under pressure, juggling caseloads, meeting priorities and dealing with conflicting deadlines. You will have an eye for accuracy and ensure quality and consistency of work produced. You will have great people skills and experience of managing, supporting and working alongside a diverse range of people.

    Location

    The job is primarily based in Laurence House, but we operate a hybrid approach where you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis.

    Special conditions

  • Solicitor, barrister or CILEX with current practising certificate (at least years PQE)
