Job description

This position is funded through the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme ARRS , a special government-funded initiative for PCNs (Primary Care Networks). The role is designed exclusively for newly qualified GPs, offering a rare opportunity to ease into general practice. Lakeside is offering a fixed-term contract within core hours with various different pathways.

Main duties of the job

As a newly qualified GP, you will have the opportunity to work in a supportive and collaborative environment. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to our patients, including diagnosis, treatment, and education of health. You will be part of a dynamic team in a forward-thinking, collaborative practice and gain experience that will prepare you for your first substantive post. This is an easier, supportive, and structured first step into general practice, ideal for building confidence, skills, and connections within a leading, innovative practice.

Job responsibilities

The ARRS GP will be responsible for delivering the full range of primary care services as part of the practice, ensuring the highest standards of care for the differing needs of our patient population. The ARRS GP will work closely with the practice's multi-disciplinary team of other GPs, nurses, and non-clinical staff to provide a high-quality and accessible service to patients.

Clinical responsibilities :

  • Make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, and dealing with queries, paperwork, referrals, and correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organization.
  • Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, develop care plans for health.
  • Provide counseling and health education.
  • Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible.
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary or generically whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • Undertake all normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • Complete care plans required for local enhanced services.
  • Participate in Enhanced Services work required within the practice.

Training and Education

  • Prepare for and complete the annual external appraisal process.
  • Prepare for and complete the revalidation process.
  • Undertake training that meets personal, mandatory, and practice learning needs.
  • Participate in and contribute to learning activities such as significant event reviews, clinical audit, and protected learning time.
  • Contribute to delivering teaching for doctors in training in the practice and other health professionals in training.

    Qualifications

  • Newly qualified GP over the past 2 years with completion of training certificate.
  • Registered with the GMC.
  • Member of the GP Performers List.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check

    This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
