About the team

The Underwriting department supports the Bank by assessing the risk of lending and protecting the Bank against this risk and losses. With strong market knowledge, a diagnostic approach and ability to give dependable decisions, the team take a common sense approach to manual underwriting.

What you will be doing

The key purpose of this role is to facilitate and progress mortgage applications to Completion, within the assigned mandate level, in line with the Bank’s operating procedures and policies and to be responsible for reviewing and responding to all post offer correspondence for long term lending applications. Ensuring that this is dealt with in a timely manner with no breaches of our lending policy. Work with the completions team members ensuring that completion dates are met.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • To be responsible for delivering a high-quality service to brokers, solicitors and customers. To control the release of completion funds, ensuring customer funds reach solicitors in time for completion.
  • Proactively deal with Solicitors, liaising with Legal & Compliance to ensure our interests are protected at all times.
  • Where applicable, demonstrate ability to use a personal lending mandate appropriately across all lending streams with sound rationale and exemplary quality assurance.
  • Communicate with intermediaries on declined cases, handle objections and provide objective feedback to any questions.
  • Provide telephone support as required to ensure customer service standards are managed and maintained.
  • Manage escalations and resolve technical queries from other team members.

In return for your commitment

We offer a base salary dependent on experience of between £25,000 - £27,000 and a competitive benefits package including :

    We are looking for talented individuals who have the experience and knowledge set out below :

  • Knowledge of regulations for Commercial / Semi Comm / BTL mortgages.
  • Previous experience in a mortgage administration or underwriting in Financial Services.
  • Previous experience conducting solicitor audits and KPI management.
  • Previous experience supervising & training staff.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel in particular).
