Role description :

In this role, you will be responsible for the complex analysis and review of project documentation to generate comprehensive project cost estimates, reports, and presentations for our clients, with regular use of cost estimating software applications and methods. Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in cost estimating and commercial management in construction works, excellent communication skills and knowledge of construction means and methods, ideally within highways and wider infrastructure sector. Our cost estimating team will utilise their skills in developing cost estimates for roads and highways works, from maintenance and renewal operational projects, through major highways infrastructure investments to highways projects and programmes of national importance.

Role accountabilities :

  • Manage the delivery of cost management in small / medium infrastructure developments or significant components of larger cost management assignments
  • Deliver their scope of work in line with various controls, and will have significant technical knowledge and experience in their field
  • Independently prepare bottom-up and top-down cost estimates from plans / drawings and documents from conceptual stage to final design documents and prepare written basis of estimate reports associated with the estimates.
  • Liaise with, and report updates to external contractors, consultants and clients
  • Review and understand project documents and asses any project risks.
  • Understand project logistics and project schedule.
  • Perform accurate quantity take-offs by hand and / or using software enabled applications.
  • Track market conditions and costs.
  • Assist with the development of project scope, supporting value management activities and communicating estimating scope with key project stakeholders.
  • Follow appropriate internal control safeguards to ensure consistent reporting of accurate information.
  • Assist in the coaching and development of other team members in order to share knowledge, increase team skill level and improve the standard of service delivery
  • Use your skills with construction means and methods.

Qualifications & Experience :

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Relevant professional qualification or chartered status
  • CSCS card holder
  • Capable of taking a project through from inception to completion
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring more junior colleagues and emerging leadership skills
  • Experience of working closely with external stakeholders to build client relationships
  • Experience in managing business relationships at middle-management level
