Job description

Job overview

To provide services in Obstetrics and Gynaecology across the 2 sites of Doncaster Royal Infirmary & Bassetlaw District General Hospital in accordance with evidence based practice. The successful candidate will also be expected, to participate in clinical audit, the teaching of trainees and maintenance of our high standard of medical practice.

Four vacancies have arisen in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust due to gaps in our current rotation to which we wish to appoint 4 Locally Employed Doctors of ST6-8 level. There is a potential for 2 of these posts to be Clinical Fellows, this would be discussed with the successful applicants. This post is to cover a full rota, including nights and weekends on a 1 : 8 cycle.

There will be opportunity to have one fixed special interest session.

Main duties of the job

  • To maintain the highest clinical standards
  • To provide labour ward on-call cover on the registrars rota as second on-call
  • To provide cover for a wide variety of Antenatal and Gynaecology clinics & theatres.
  • To work with colleagues, both medical and allied health professionals to improve and advance the service.
  • To share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the Department.
  • To share with colleagues the responsibility for teaching and training of trainees, junior medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues and medical students.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

We have a total bed complement of 1,150 and the General Surgery Department provides Elective and Emergency inpatient, day case and outpatient services across 3 Hospital sites.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • MBchB / MBBS or equivalent
  • Completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, or equivalent experience and competencies
  • Part 1 MRCOG
  • Must have or be eligible for full registration with the General Medical Council at time of appointment and continue to hold a License to Practise.

    Essential criteria

  • Must be able to demonstrate clinical experience and competence in all aspects of obstetrics and Gynaecology and Evidence of level 4 competency in Capability in Practice 10 (able to cover emergency obstetric without supervision on-site)
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the role
  • Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need

  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of medical students, junior colleagues and non-medical staff.

  • Academic achievements / evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
