Job responsibilities

Acorns Children's Hospice Trust are looking for a Young Person Worker to join our Family Services Teams in our Walsall Hospice. The Young Person Worker will be an advocate for young people, champion the provision of services and support with their preparation for adulthood.

About the Role

At Acorns Childrens Hospice we offer specialist palliative care and support for children and their families across the West Midlands. We are there wherever and whenever they need us, in the hospice, community and at home. Our aim at Acorns is to help families feel equipped to cope at every stage of their childs life with dedicated teams offering psychological, emotional and practical support.

As a Young Person Worker, you will :

  • be an advocate for the needs of young people within the hospice environment, giving them a voice in the organisation, seeking feedback from them and delivering new initiatives to meet their needs
  • work with our young people, listening to their goals and aspirations and help them to prepare for adulthood and transition
  • plan, develop and deliver a strategy that achieves operational objectives, including creating individual and group therapeutic-based support systems and Young Person Interest Forums.
  • contribute to the development of services for young people, assisting in the delivery of a range of training programmes, participation in outreach work and contribution to service evaluation.
  • work with the Young Person Workers in our two other hospices, to meet organisational objectives and to share best practice

About You

  • Professionally qualified to degree level in a field such as Social Work, Community Nursing, Youth Work, Counselling or Play Therapy
  • Experience of organising and implementing programmes of activity for young people
  • Experience of providing therapeutic based support for young people
  • Youll need to be able to travel around the Acorns region independently and some evening and weekend work will be required to meet the needs of the young people.

    What We Offer

  • 27,000 to £37,000 per annum (pro rata), plus allowances (additional £1181 per annum)
