Teaching Assistant - Challenging Behaviour SpecialistSalary : £17,700 per annumHours : 35 hours per weekContract : Full-time (Term-time only)Location : NW9, LondonReporting to : Head of DepartmentWe are seeking an experienced and resilient Teaching Assistant to join our school for students with challenging behaviour who have difficulties in mainstream education. This role is ideal for candidates with a background in youth work, cover supervision, or supporting students with behavioural difficulties.Key Responsibilities :
- Support teachers in managing classroom behaviour and implementing effective strategies
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with complex behavioural needs
- Assist in creating and maintaining a structured, engaging learning environment
- Implement positive reinforcement techniques and de-escalation strategies
- Collaborate with teachers to deliver tailored learning activities
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavioural incidentsEssential Skills and Experience :
- Proven experience working with students with challenging behaviour in secondary settings
- Strong behaviour management skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of various behavioural disorders and appropriate interventions
- Ability to build positive relationships with challenging students
- Flexibility and adaptability in responding to diverse student needsDesirable Experience :
- Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor, or Youth Worker
- Familiarity with alternative provision or pupil referral units
- Background in mentoring or supporting young people facing behavioural challengesThe successful candidate will be a resilient and compassionate professional, capable of effectively managing challenging behaviour while maintaining a supportive learning environment. You should be prepared to work collaboratively with teachers and other staff members to ensure a cohesive approach to behaviour management across the school.An enhanced DBS check and adherence to safeguarding policies are required for this role
