Job description

Senior Homeless Prevention Officer

Are you passionate about preventing homelessness in your local community.

Following the growth of the team, we are now looking for a Senior Homeless Prevention Officer to join our committed team in tackling homelessness within the Borough.

As an experienced practitioner, you will have excellent working knowledge of Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. A typical day working in our Homelessness Prevention Team will involve managing a caseload, using a person-centred approach to undertake detailed housing options and support needs assessments, taking actions to prevent homelessness and making statutory homeless determinations. Primarily you will work with those at risk of homelessness and collaborate with internal and external partners including accommodation providers and community safety teams.

In addition to your existing experience and skills, you will apply a trauma informed approach to provide an effective homelessness prevention service for individuals and families, many of whom have multiple and complex vulnerabilities.

Our progressive attitude and successful social inclusion partnership has made significant achievements in preventing homelessness, reducing the use of interim accommodation and assisting the most vulnerable members of our community. The successful applicant will play a key role in continuing that record and will work across both our Homelessness Advice and Social Inclusion teams.

To find out whether we’re the right employer for you, please contact or for an informal chat.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council offer a wide range of benefits, including a generous leave entitlement, access to discounts at nationwide retailers through our ‘B Rewarded’ discount site, flexible working, healthcare cash plan, pension scheme and much more.

The council signs up to the Disability Confident scheme (formerly known as the ‘Two Ticks’ scheme). If you have declared a disability on the application form we can guarantee you an interview if you meet the essential criteria for the job.
