Job description

Job summary

The post holder will, under the guidance of the Pharmacy Manager (Prison Healthcare) and Pharmacy Technician (Prison Healthcare), assist in the provision of a safe, efficient and cost-effective pharmaceutical service to prisoners.

Main duties of the job

Operational service deliveryo To assist the Spectrum Community Health (SCH) prison pharmacy team to deliver pharmacy services to ensure continuity of supply of medicineso To contribute to the timely and efficient supply of dispensed medicines toprisonerso To work within locally approved policies and standard operating procedureso To assist the prison pharmacy team in the review of repeat prescribingsystems and assisting prison healthcare staff in the implementation ofimprovements that ensure robust systems are in placeo To assist the prison pharmacy team in responding to all major MHRA drugalerts through facilitation of appropriate action within prison healthcare over an appropriate timeframe and to support any medication changes that occur as a resulto To assist the prison pharmacy team in undertaking clinical audit and sharing the outcomes of the audits, in order to facilitate improvement and changes in practiceo To assist the prison pharmacy team with preparing user-friendly resources and information that support health professionals in the implementation of national guidance and promotes rational, cost-effective prescribing Medicines bulletin, prescribing tips

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 2 in Pharmaceutical Sciences (or equivalent experience)
  • Ability to travel independently around Cheshire District

Desirable

  • Willingness to undertake NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • At least 2 years experience of working in community / hospital pharmacy
  • Desirable

  • Experience of working in a prison environment or similar setting
  • Knowledge of medicines management issues
  • Skills

    Essential

  • Good clinical pharmacy knowledge including terminology
  • Computer literate- able to use Word and Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Has a good understanding of data protection and confidentiality issues
  • Desirable

  • Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
  • Influencing skills
  • Knowledge of GP practice computer systems
  • Patient counselling skills
  • Has a good understanding of security issues in relation to the prison environment
