Job description

About the Role

The role is key in supporting our disabled students, including those with specific learning difficulties and mental health conditions and ensuring they have full access to all academic activities, professional services and opportunities offered at Goldsmiths. The post-holder will assess individual students’ disability-related needs for support and reasonable adjustments effectively, create plans of support and check on their implementation. They will be key in connecting students with external funding (such as the Disabled Students Allowance) for that support or in ensuring that the support is nonetheless available when students do not have access to external resource. A familiarity with the Equality Act and its implications on the delivery of our services and courses is essential to this role. The role also requires liaising and working collaboratively with academic and professional departments across the institution.

About the Candidate

To fill this role, the candidate will need detailed knowledge of a range of disabilities and of the support available. They must be able to demonstrate an understanding of, and empathy for the needs of a unique, diverse and international student community, whilst ensuring that the support / adjustments can be shown to be reasonable and enable students to meet academic milestones. The role-holder will be an excellent team player, reliable and a good communicator. They will need to be flexible, responsive and pro-active in their approach. They will need to show a constant commitment to the highest quality of service and to ensuring an outstanding student experience, as well as their own professional development.

Benefits

We have generous benefits – an agile working environment, 22 days’ annual leave plus 6 paid closure days (4 at Christmas and 2 at Easter) plus all Bank Holidays, great transport links, a defined benefit pension scheme, support for professional development, and a broad range of wellbeing initiatives such as staff choir, running club, and creative writing classes.

Goldsmiths is working to tackle inequality in all its forms and to promote equality on grounds of race, disability, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion and belief, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, and caring responsibilities. We are keen to attract candidates from diverse backgrounds who share our commitment to creating an inclusive culture in which all students and staff can thrive.
