Teaching Assistant – SEMH Focus – Brent

Position : Teaching Assistant – SEMH Focus

Type : Full-time, Permanent

Location : Brent, London

Responsibilities :

  • Provide 1 : 1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage in learning and develop coping strategies.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) in collaboration with teachers and SEN staff.
  • Foster a positive and calm classroom environment that supports emotional regulation and social interaction.
  • Monitor and track student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents on emotional and academic development.
  • Work closely with the pastoral team to address emotional and behavioural challenges, promoting positive mental health and well-being.
  • Participate in extra-curricular activities and interventions that focus on social skills development and emotional resilience.

Experience and Qualifications :

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
  • A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach to supporting students with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and parents.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, or mental health support (e.g., Level 2 / 3 Teaching Assistant qualification) are desirable.
  • A DBS check is required.
