We are looking for an Assistant Café Manager for our PROPER JOB Café at the Cornwall Council Offices in Truro. This opportunity allows you to support the management of your team made up of adults with learning disabilities and / or autism and to deliver quality food and drink with high levels of customer service . This is a full time, permanent opportunity with our team.

Role Purpose

To support the management of the PROPER JOB Café. Supporting adults with learning disabilities and / or autism into a range or person-centred work-related outcomes enabling them to live active and better lives. The role includes supporting the management of a trading and training café, providing quality food and drink with high levels of customer service, including planning, preparing and serving varied meals and snacks. The role will involve delivering work related and training opportunities working both independently and as part of a staff team.

Duties will include

To support the manager with day-to-day management of staff performance, staff development, regular appraisals, supervisions and attendance management.

To be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the café in the Manager’s absence.

To put forward proposals and plans for the development of the café.

Ensure that clear, complete and accurate records are maintained for service users accessing the opportunities at the cafe. Also, for staff, ensuring records of training and annual leave are complete and accurate.

When required, to order provisions and ensure stock rotation.

Maintain clear stock records.

In response to customer demand, provide a range of baked goods, snacks and light meals and refreshments to a high standard.

To work within the framework of Safer Food Better Business

To ensure that all areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness.

To work with colleagues in the development and delivery of training and work experience programmes.

To treat people with care, respect and dignity at all times.

To undertake, when required, other duties not specifically mentioned in this Role Profile but are deemed reasonable in respect to your level of accountability.

To work at all times within the Council’s policy on the Protection of Vulnerable Adults & Safeguarding.

To comply at all times with all relevant Health & Safety and COSHH legislation.

About you

To possess Level CIEH or have sufficient practical experience equivalent to this qualification

Previous experience of managing staff

Proven ability to compile reports and maintain records and basic accounting records

Clear understanding of relevant legislation, such as Health & safety, GDPR and Safeguarding

Knowledge and awareness which demonstrates a good understanding of the barriers faced by disabled people within a workplace.

Has undertaken training or has an understanding in how to interact appropriately with people with a learning disability and or autism, at an appropriate level to their role.

Maintain competence in understanding the needs of people with a learning disability and autistic people, including how to support them in the best way.

Demonstrate an understanding of nutrition & the ability to produce good quality balanced meals.

Proven success in devising menus including catering for those with special dietary needs.

Proven experience in maintaining stock records, ordering and rotating stocks successfully and monitoring deliveries for accuracy

Previous experience of organising own workload to ensure that deadlines are adhered to, using effective time management techniques

Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team, to lead, participate and contribute to team meetings

Evidence of an ability to undertake manual handling activities

Evidence of the successful use of communication skills and ability to be diplomatic

Evidence of an approachable manner and an aptitude for understanding and responding to customers’ needs in order to deliver excellent customer service

Evidence of an ability to be flexible in both time and duties to ensure that the service is delivered efficiently and also have a willingness to undertake other duties to

maintain service delivery if requested

The following qualifications and experience are desirable but not essential :

Competent with IT and the use of Microsoft office packages

Hourly rate £ to per hour.

Working Hours : per week Monday to Friday
